PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gradation interpolation circuit for eliminating a stripe pattern by detecting a border line (step difference) of the stripe pattern caused in a gradation region or the like in a display image caused by roughness of quantization applied to a video signal. SOLUTION: The gradation interpolation circuit receives an image signal with a border line, and reconfigures pixel values in order to express an intermediate gradation of images in regions before and after the border line by changing the gradation pattern of an image in a region surrounded by pixels in parallel with the border line and pixels perpendicular to the border line according to a prescribed numerical expression.
