PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a plasma display panel equipped with barrier ribs capable of sufficiently ensuring the mechanical strength of the barrier ribs and achieving high intensity.

SOLUTION: The substrate 1 for the plasma display panel has barrier ribs 2... partitioning discharge cells 6 formed on the substrate 4, the the barrier ribs 2 are formed with thin barriers 4 formed on at least one-end side of the barrier libs 2 by forming a recessed groove 3 and thick barriers 5 continuing to the thin barriers 4 and thicker than the thin barriers 4.
