PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate image processing and data transfer while suppressing a deterioration in image quality. SOLUTION: This image processing unit includes: a multi-value processing part for performing multi-value processing of the gradation of each pixel in accordance with the resolution of an output image to generate multi-value gradation data; a dot formation data generating part for converting the multi-value gradation data into the number of dots data, separately determining the existence/absence of dot formation about one or more pixels on the basis of the number of dots data and generating data for dot formation of the output image of the resolution with a portion of pixels of the determined one or more pixels as pixels constituting the output image; and a memory. When the resolution of an output image is first resolution, the generated multi-value gradation data is stored in the memory, the data for dot formation is generated from the multi-value gradation data acquired from the memory, and when the resolution of an output image is second resolution lower than the first resolution, the generated multi leveled gradation data is transmitted to the dot formation data generating part.
