PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording apparatus and an information reproducing apparatus capable of decreasing an information amount of a still picture to be recorded by using information of a moving picture at the reproduction of the still picture. SOLUTION: A recording apparatus for simultaneously recording a moving picture and a still picture includes: an optical-path splitter for splitting a ray made incident from an imaging lens; at least one photodetector for receiving the ray split by the optical-path splitter and providing an output of a moving picture signal and at least one photodetector for receiving the ray split by the optical-path splitter and providing an output of a still picture; a moving picture signal recording unit for recording the moving picture signal to a recording medium; and a still picture signal recording unit for recording the still picture signal to the recording medium, and the information recording apparatus acts like a moving picture still picture simultaneous recording apparatus. In the apparatus, the information recording apparatus and the information reproducing apparatus are constituted in such a way that the still picture is recorded as supplementary still picture information for supplementing information of moving picture data to which the still picture corresponds.
