PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a short circuit between luminous pixels in an organic EL element having an insulating film between the luminous pixels. SOLUTION: The organic EL element S1 has a plurality of luminous pixels 50, where an anode 20 as a lower electrode, an organic film 30 made of an organic EL material, and a cathode 40 as an upper electrode are laminated on a substrate 10. Further, the organic EL element S1 has the insulating film 60 arranged between respective luminous pixels 50 on the substrate 10, and can apply forward and backward bias voltages between the cathode 20 and the anode 40. In the organic EL element S1, a region 80 for preventing a current from being injected when the forward and backward bias voltages are applied is formed at the outer periphery of the luminous pixels 50 that are regions between the insulating film 60 and the luminous pixel 50.
