The invention relates to a composite and monolithic sintered refractory block, especially for the production of a reduction cell for aluminium, said block comprising at least first (18a) and second (18b) regions in different first (33a) and second (33b) refractory materials consisting of first and second granulated materials bound by first and second matrices, respectively, at least the first granulated material being based on silicon carbide (SiC). The inventive refractory block is characterised in that at least one of the matrices contains nitrogen (N).
