PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus having a transparent substrate which can be used effectively for a time as long as possible even if a dirt prevention layer wears out, and moreover to provide the image reading apparatus including the transparent substrate having the dirt prevention layer which is hardly worn out while suppressing a paper jam as much as possible. SOLUTION: This image reading apparatus conveys an original along one field of the transparent substrate, and prepares the original read station so as to oppose to another field of the transparent substrate. The transparent substrate has the dirty prevention layer on at least one field in the original reader which reads while conveying the original to a stopped original read station. This dirt prevention layer has a polydimethyl siloxane denaturalized by an amino group in which a side chain comprises a monoamino alkyl group or a diamino alkyl group and a perfluoro alkyl polyether. Consequently, a reading processing in which a black line and a dirtiness are not formed can be performed without arising a paper jam. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
