PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charge control agent having good heat resistance, good affinity for a resin, good dispersibility and a high charge buildup speed, excellent in environment resistance and storage stability, and usable for various chromatic or achromatic toners, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The charge control agent includes crystalline zinc 3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylate as an effective component represented by formula and having at least main diffraction peaks for a characteristic X-ray of CuKαat Bragg angles 2θof 5.7±0.2°, 6.4±0.2°, 6.7±0.2°and 15.4±0.2°.
