It is intended to provide a method whereby a nucleic acid is extracted from a sample such as soil by economically and efficiently removing humic matters. Namely, a nucleic acid extraction method for extracting a nucleic acid from a sample which contains at least humic matters and the nucleic acid. This nucleic acid extraction method comprises the mixing step wherein a sample containing humic matters and a nucleic acid is mixed with an aqueous solution containing a magnesium salt and the removal step wherein the precipitate containing the humic matters, which has been formed in the above mixing step, is removed and the nucleic acid is extracted.
