<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which inspection patterns formed on a plurality of image carriers are transferred to a transfer belt and the inspection patterns are detected by a sensor disposed opposite the transfer belt, the image forming apparatus being designed such that the position of the sensor is appropriately determined in relation to the transfer belt in order to improve detection accuracy and prevent interference with transfer paper, and to provide a process cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: The sensor S1 is disposed on the circumferential face of a support roller R1 around which the transfer belt 11 is wrapped at a fixed angle or larger, and in the vicinity of a contact between the support roller R1 and the belt 11 in the direction where the belt 11 is stretched. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
