<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating film for optical compensation which has a characteristic of [(n<SB>x</SB>+n<SB>y</SB>)/2-n<SB>z</SB>]×d<0 without the need for a complicated film forming process, and also to provide an optical element which has the characteristic without the labor and time for sticking a film or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The coating film for optical compensation contains a polymer satisfying a relation:[(n<SB>x</SB>+n<SB>y</SB>)/2-n<SB>z</SB>]×d<0 , wherein (n<SB>x</SB>) denotes a maximum value among refractive indexes within a thin film-formed plane, (n<SB>y</SB>) denotes a minimum value among them, (n<SB>z</SB>) denotes a refractive index in a thickness direction, and (d) denotes film thickness. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
