PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable communication apparatus capable of controlling mail transmission by detecting expiration of the validity of a certificate of its own apparatus. SOLUTION: The electronic mail communication apparatus 10 including: a certificate storage section 20 for storing the certificate of its own apparatus including the validity; a signature section 26 for digitally signing mail by using the certificate; and a mail transmission section 14 for transmitting the mail, is provided with a transmission instruction reception section 16 for receiving a transmission instruction of mail; a detection section 22 for detecting the expiration of validity of the certificate when receiving the transmission instruction; and a control section 24 for controlling the mail transmission section 14 when the detection section detects the expiration of validity.
