<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium for a near field recording wherein a functional (recordable) coloring matter such as a photochromic material is made to be contained selectively and stably only in a dot (island) portion of the patterned medium. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium having a recording layer 2 formed by utilizing self-organizing phase separation that a block copolymer forms, a block polymer consists of a hydrophobic polymer and a hydrophilic polymer and the recordable coloring matter is contained in the hydrophobic polymer.
