PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspecting apparatus that speedily and easily sets appropriate areas, and to provide a PTP packaging machine. SOLUTION: The appearance inspecting apparatus 21 comprises an imaging device 23, an image processing device 24, etc. The image processing device 24 includes an image memory 41, a camera position capturing means 42 for capturing the position of each camera of the imaging device 23 in relation to a PTP film, a data conversion means 43 for converting various data, such as PTP sheet dimensions, into coordinate data, and a data storage means 44 for storing various data, such as PTP sheet dimensions. Based upon the positional relations between the PTP film and the imaging device 23 and the shape and dimensions of the PTP sheet and those of a pocket, the appearance inspecting apparatus 21 positions and sets various areas at least in the direction of the film width.
