An upholstery pad comprises a core 4 of foamed plastics or foamed rubber surrounded on all sides by foamed rubber vulcanized to the core, the pad having opposed convex surfaces formed with holes extending inwardly to the core. The pad may be formed in a two-part mould 1, the lid and bottom of which carry inwardly directed pegs 2 the opposed ends of which are spaced apart when the mould is closed: The pre-formed core 4, preferably of polyurethane polyether, is supported on the lower pegs 2 and a latex composition 3a, 3b containing foaming and vulcanizing agents is introduced to the lower mould half. The mould is then closed whereby the core 4 is resiliently compressed between pegs 2 and the latex composition foams to fill the mould and is vulcanized to the core 4. The lid is finally removed and the core 4 expands to form opposed convex surfaces on the pad which includes holes in the outer foam rubber layers which accommodated the pegs 2.</p> |
