Use of transition metal complexes as catalysts in fuel cells for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and/or nitric acid and in the procedure for the plasma-supported carrying, activation and stabilization of the catalysts. Independent claims are included for: (1) a catalyst carried on a substrate; and (2) use of p-chloranil in combination with conductivity additives e.g. sodium tungstate and tungstic acid in fuel cells and a procedure for the plasma-supported carrying, activation and stabilization of the catalysts.
