PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that can adjust light to be in an appropriate projection light quantity in each of continuously projected images without adjusting the light quantity by mechanical operation such as a light quantity adjusting blade, and that is excellent in its responsiveness and free from a problem relating to operation sound or durability. SOLUTION: On continuously forwarding image data to a liquid crystal panel or other image forming units, luminance of the preceding image data is compared with luminance of the succeeding image data. If a luminance change exceeding a predetermined degree is found, the light quantity of a light source is adjusted. A plurality of light emitting elements such as LEDs are used as the light source, wherein the light quantity is controlled by turning on a part of the plurality of two-dimensionally arranged light emitting elements, or the light emitting elements are configured to be turned on and off in a predetermined period and the period is adjusted.
