PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine capable of corresponding to a type having a variable function of valve characteristic and a type having no variable function by merely changing the reduced number of parts. SOLUTION: This cylinder head is composed of a cylinder head body 16 in which most of each cylinder heads 11, 12, intake and exhaust valves 27, 28, and a valve spring 31 are assembled. A part of each cylinder head 11, 12 is composed of a cam carrier on one side selected from among a first cam carrier 17 on which intake and exhaust cam shafts 32, 36 are rotatably supported and a second cam carrier 46 on which the intake and exhaust camshafts 32, 36 are rotatably supported and in which a valve characteristic variable device 51 is assembled.
