PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and economical method for nitrating an organic compound which is capable of practically suppressing the formation of a secondary product. SOLUTION: The method is for isothermally nitrating an aromatic organic compound and forms a nitrated aromatic organic compound by (A) bringing the aromatic organic compound (1) into contact with a mixture (2) of sulfuric acid (a) and nitric acid (b) and (B) reacting a mixture of the aromatic organic compound (1) with the mixture (2) of sulfuric acid (a) and nitric acid (b).
