A porous metal having pores continuously extending in one direction; and an inexpensive process for easily producing the porous metal with small energy consumption. The following steps are conducted in the following order: a mixing step (I) in which a metal powder (M) is mixed with a salt powder (P) to obtain a mixture (MP); a stretch forming step (III) in which the mixture (MP) is stretched by the extrusion method to obtain a molding (G); and a salt removal step (IV) in which the salt is dissolved away from the molding (G). The stretch forming step (III) is conducted while keeping the mixture heated at a temperature not higher than the melting points of the metal powder (M) and salt powder (P). Since the metal powder (M) and the salt powder (P) are mixed and molded by stretching, the metal powder (M) and the salt powder (P) are simultaneously stretched and, during the stretching, particles of the metal powder (M) are bonded to one another and united together. Simultaneously therewith, the salt powder (P) in a stretched state comes to be present in the metallic object. Because of this, by subsequently washing away the salt powder, a porous metal having pores continuously extending in one direction can be produced.
|
