PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress chirping generated at an optical signal pulse emitted from an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: A first length L<SB>1</SB>opposed to a first optical waveguide 19b and opposed to a region 21a where polarization is not reversed in a central conductive body 20a and a second length L<SB>2</SB>opposed to a second optical waveguide 19a and opposed to a region 21b where polarization is reversed in the central conductive body 20a are set so that the sign of a parameterαrepresenting the magnitude of the chirping of the optical signal pulse emitted from an optical waveguide 19 of an optical modulator is changed from the plus to the minus or the minus to the plus associated with the change of the modulation frequency in a prescribed modulation frequency band based on a high frequency electric signal.
