PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file management method that makes it possible to easily construct a file management system, and a shared computer program. SOLUTION: The file management method includes a step for managing files among a plurality of terminals 10, 20, 30 connected to one another via a network 100 and for allocating file related information for every file stored in a storage device that each terminal has, the file related information including the terminal address of each terminal storing the file, and each file's hierarchy information; a step for displaying each file's hierarchical state on the display part of each terminal according to the file related information; a step for sending an update file when the file stored in one of the terminals is updated on another terminal, while using as an address a terminal address allocated to that file; and a step for rewriting into the update file the corresponding file stored in the storage device of the terminal that has received the update file.
