PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat development method which can achieve high sensitivity, low fogging, high maximum concentration even when quick processing is done using a small-sized heat development device, causes no image defect after the heat development, and can offer stable photographic performance in a wide-ranging imager installation environment. SOLUTION: In the heat development method, a silver salt photothermal photographic dry imaging material having a photosensitive layer containing an organic silver salt, silver halide grains, a binder, and a reducing agent on the base is transported while being heated, using a heat development device. The heat development device comprises a temperature raising part for raising the temperature of the silver salt photothermal photographic dry imaging material to a heat development temperature, and a heat retainer for retaining the temperature of the silver salt photothermal photographic dry imaging material of which temperature has been raised to the heat development temperature. The heating method of the temperature raising part and the heating method of the heat retaining part are different. The value of early change in the moisture content when the silver salt photothermal photographic dry imaging material is exposed to the environment is≥1.6 and≤2.2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
