PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using a small-diameter photoreceptor drum, in which satisfactory transfer and separation are ensured. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a transfer separation unit where a transfer section having a transfer wire and an AC separation section having an AC separation wire are unitized, and the image forming apparatus transfers a toner image formed on an opposite photoreceptor drum onto synchronously conveyed transfer paper, and then separates the recording paper from the photoreceptor drum, wherein a grounded conductive shield plate 7b is disposed between the transfer wire 5a and the AC separation wire 6a, the shield plate 7b has such a shape that electric fields for transfer and for separation are prevented from interfering with each other on the photoreceptor drum 1.
