The injector (1) has a nozzle supply chamber for the fuel supply to injection nozzle. A pressure reduction conduit (14), branching off from nozzle supply chamber, is provided for discharging fuel from nozzle supply chamber in order to lower the pressure in the nozzle supply chamber and to lower the injection pressure for pre-injection. An independent claim is also included for the operating method for fuel injection system of internal combustion engine.
