The differential piston (1), for a high pressure hydraulic press, is within a cylinder (4) with pressure applied alternately at the piston head (2) and the piston shaft (3) sides. Between the piston head and shaft there is a radial and axially symmetrical continuous and stepless transit zone (14), from the outer peripheral configuration (15) of the piston head to the outer peripheral configuration (16) of the piston shaft. Its largest diameter is the diameter (D1) of the piston head and the smallest diameter is the diameter (D2) of the piston shaft.
