NEAR INFRARED RAY ABSORBING FILTER, OPTICAL FILTER FOR PLASMA DISPLAY AND PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL

A near infrared ray absorbing filter is a film formed by subjecting a polyester containing a near infrared ray absorbing agent to the biaxial orientation, and the polyester has a melting point of 230°C or lower. An optical filter for a plasma display has a near infrared ray cutting layer comprising a polyester containing a near infrared ray absorbing agent and an image quality correcting layer comprising a polyester containing a compound which absorbs a visible light having a local maximum wave length of absorption at 560 to 600 nm. Those layers are formed in one piece and laminated by the co-extrusion method wherein they are together melt-extruded from extruding molders and form a biaxially oriented film. The above polyesters have a melting point of 230°C or lower.
