A method for establishing a paired connection between a first device and a second device across a network is disclosed. The first device responds to user interaction to transmit an information message including an identifier indicating that the user of the first device wishes to pair the first device with the second device. The first device responds to receipt of tan information message from the second device within a first predetermined time period, to retrieve an identifier of the second device from the information message and to transmit a confirmation message including an identifier of the first device and an identifier of the second device. On receipt of a corresponding confirmation message from the second device within a second predetermined time period, the first device completes a paired connection with the second device.
