Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVI] In a connecting rod and crankpin bearing arrangement for a V-type engine and comprising an auxiliary connecting rod 14 pivoted to the crankpin bearing of a main connecting rod 1, the crankpin bearing comprises an upper part 2 and a bearing cover 5 detachably secured together to the main connecting rod foot 10, as by bolts 6, 7, and the auxiliary rod 14 is pivotally connected to the upper part 2. The rod 14 is pivotally secured to a lug 15 on the part 2 by a pin 13. Shoulders 17 and 18 and 19 and 20 on the part 2 co-operate respectively with the opposite sides of the foot 10 and the cover 5. A stud 21 serves to hold the part 2 and the foot 10 together to facilitate assembly of the bearing. The dimensions of the foot 10 and part 2 are such that the rods, with the part 2 attached to the auxiliary rod 14, can be withdrawn through their respective cylinders. In modifications, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the dividing planes 9 and 12 between the foot 10 and the part 2 and between the part 2 and the cover 5 respectively are at right angles to the longitudinal axis 11 of the rod 1. |
