The method involves supplying a terminal of a reed bulb by a continuous voltage (V p). An output signal is sampled to obtain samples corresponding to the sampling times. A sample is validated only if no state change of the bulb is detected between two sampling times. The state change is validated when a preset number lower than the samples is obtained. The terminal is supplied based on a low consumption supply mode. An independent claim is also included for a device for counting the output pulses of a reed bulb.
