Device for electrolysis of a liquid to produce at least two gases, which can react explosively together, includes a secure zone (23) protected against risk of explosion if the gases are mixed accidentally. Device for electrolysis of a liquid to produce at least two gases, which can react explosively together, includes a secure zone (23) protected against risk of explosion if the gases are mixed accidentally. Zone (23) comprises various hollow components and pieces of equipment constructed to function under a normal working pressure (p1), e.g. electrolysis cells, pipework; separators; exchangers and valves, in communication with each other and forming a continuous pathway for propagation of an explosion. The new feature is that (23) includes protected, central part (21) in which all components/equipment are designed to resist rupture at an overpressure (p2) greater than p1, generated by an explosion. An independent claim is also included for a factory, for producing gases, that uses the new device, where this is at a location not protected against the risks of explosion.
