A process for preparing a multimetal oxide catalyst is disclosed comprising: admixing metal compounds of which at least one is an oxygen containing compound, and at least one solvent to form a solution, removing the solvent from the solution by e.g. rotary evaporation to obtain a catalyst precursor and calcining this precursor between 350-850 DEG C under an inert atmosphere. The catalyst is useful for the gas phase oxidation of alkanes to unsaturated aldehydes or carboxylic acids. In an example a Mo, V, Te and Nb containing catalyst is used for the oxidation of propane to acrylic acid. |
