<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern and a pattern forming method capable of increasing an expressible information amount. <P>SOLUTION: This pattern 10 is formed on the rear face 2b of a glass substrate 2. A pattern formation area Z1 is virtually divided into respective cells each of 16 rows × 16 columns, a dot D is selectively formed to each the divided cell. The dot D is one of a first dot D1, a second dot D2, and a third dot D3 respectively having different dot diameters R1, R2, and R3. About one cell, four-value information is expressed according to whether the dot D is formed or not, and which dot D of the first to third dots D1-D3 is formed.
