<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which intrusion of foreign matter or bleaching powder into the inside of a liquid crystal panel is prevented, intrusion of foreign matter or bleaching powder into an optical sheet or the like is also prevented while reliably preventing generation of wrinkles in an optical sheet, and uniform luminance is kept as a result. <P>SOLUTION: The display device has a backlight device which includes: a diffusing plate placed in front of a light source lamp; and a plurality of optical sheets placed on the front face of the diffusing plate, wherein the edge portion of the stacked diffusing plate and the optical sheets is sealed in three directions of the front, back and side faces by bringing a sealing member or a seal packing material having a U-shaped cross section into contact with the faces, and the sealing member is brought into contact with a display unit to seal a space between the liquid crystal panel unit and the backlight device. The sealing member may be composed of two members each having an L-shaped cross section and layered on the end faces of the diffusion plate and the optical sheets. Otherwise, one of the sealing members having an L-shaped cross section in the diffusion plate side may be formed by extending and folding the peripheral edge of a backlight chassis placed in the backside of the diffusion plate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
