PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of reading both sides at the same time by reading a moving image of an original, the image reading apparatus that has enhanced productivity in the case of one-side reading. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes two original transport paths and two image read means. One of the image read means can selectively be disposed at a position for reading an original transported through any of the two original transport paths. In the case of double side reading of the moving image of the original, the two image read means read both sides of an original at the same time, and in the case of one-side reading of the moving image of the original, originals are alternately transported through the two original transport paths, and the two image read means read one-sides of the two originals at the same time.
