PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a drive method thereof for preventing such a phenomenon that a selected discharge cell is not turned on and preventing such erroneous discharge that a non-selected discharge cell is turned on. SOLUTION: A voltage rise controller sends control signals SS6, SS7 to a voltage boosting circuit based on a voltage rise controller driving signal. The voltage boosting circuit keeps the voltage of a sustain electrode to be higher by Ve2 in an address period of a middle and high subfield (e.g. fourth to eleventh subfields) than a voltage Ve in an address period of a low subfield (e.g. first to third subfields).
