<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording medium which has excellent color development properties, water resistance and plasticizer resistance, and has no problem about a potlife of a coating liquid for a thermal recording layer. <P>SOLUTION: In the thermal recording medium with a thermal recording layer which comprises an electron-donative compound, an electron-receptive compound and an aqueous adhesive, formed on a support, the aqueous adhesive of the thermal recording layer is at least, one kind of a modified polyvinyl alcohol selected between a diacetone-modified polyvinyl alcohol and an actoacetyl-modified polyvinyl alcohol.
