<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material having high capacity and repeatedly usable; and to provide a battery using it. <P>SOLUTION: This negative electrode material includes a particulate outer shell part 2 having a vacancy 1 in its inside, and a nucleus part 3 present in the vacancy 1. The outer shell part 2 is formed of a porous body of silicon dioxide, and the nucleus part 3 is formed of a material containing at least one kind out of a metal element and a semimetal element capable of forming an alloy with Li, for instance, Si as a constituent element. Even if the volume of the nucleus part 3 is drastically changed by storage and release of Li, shape collapse can be suppressed by absorbing the volume change by the vacancy 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
