PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording method by a perpendicular magnetic recording system that can stabilize the magnetic domain structure of the soft magnetic backing layer and achieve excellent data signal writing with less spike noise in reproducing. SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording medium has a stacked structure of a perpendicular magnetic recording layer to form record bits by writing signals and a soft magnetic backing layer to serve as a magnetic path of the writing magnetic flux. The magnetic recording method stabilizes the soft magnetic backing layer by applying a magnetic bias field to the soft magnetic backing layer from the outside of this recording medium, at least while writing signals or during the time including the time right after this writing.
