PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser surveying instrument that adjusts the output power of a laser beam automatically in accordance with a distance from a wall surface on which a target is disposed, and illuminates the wall surface at an appropriate illumination intensity which is approximately constant and most suitable for a marking operation. SOLUTION: The laser surveying instrument (1) comprises; a laser light source (30) for emitting the laser beam (32) of visible light toward the wall surface on which the target (2) is disposed; a light receiving element (72) for receiving a reflection laser beam reflected by the target; a laser light source driver circuit (68A) for controlling an electric power supplied to the laser light source; and a microcomputer (80) which compares an output of the light receiving element with a reference value by using a comparator circuit (77) and controls the laser light source driver circuit so as to make the output of the light receiving element approximately constant.
