The memory has storage areas for storing data e.g. audio/video data, and error codes, respectively, where the area for the codes is reduced so that it is used for the data. Identifiers are stored in the memory for identifying the utilization of memory contents as error codes or as usable data contents. The usable data is directly transferred to a processor (5)/an interface, and the error code is transferred to a processing module. An independent claim is also included for a method of using a memory.
