<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus capable of making it difficult to illegally use image data wherein encryption is decrypted. <P>SOLUTION: The image display apparatus for using a display device 1 (electrooptic modulator) to modulate image data outputted from an image data output apparatus and to generate a display image includes a watermark data embedding section 7 capable of embedding a correction parameter as watermark data to the image data, the correction parameter being used to correct characteristic differences due to characteristic variations of each of components of the electrooptic modulator 1.
