<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorbe the difference of the descriptive formats of various input data, and to commonly register the input data in each of the items of a dictionary to convert a prepared dictionary into various ontology or language databases for use. <P>SOLUTION: A dictionary preparation system 12 includes a computer 14, and the computer 14 is preinstalled with a plurality of conversion engines 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d and so on. The computer 14 receives input data from dictionaries 26a and 26b, glossaries 28a and 28b and experiment data 30 or the like, and selectively starts the conversion engine suitable for the data format of the input data. Then, the data are registered in each item of a dictionary 10 by extracting the set data from the input data, or converting the input data.
