PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide low density paper excellent in printability with high opacity and after printing opacity, little generation and the like of paper dust during printing in spite of the low density paper and having a large degree of density lowering. SOLUTION: The low density paper having good printability with high opacity and low generation of paper dust is produced by bringing the paper to contain 1-30 solid wt.% of precipitated calcium carbonate-silica composite material produced by neutralizing a mixture solution of precipitated calcium carbonate with an alkali silicate to pH 7-9 and coating the surface of precipitated calcium particles with silica in 1-30 wt.% solid content as a filling rate in the paper and adding 0.1-3.0 solid wt.% bulking agent for paper based on the solid content of pulp.
