PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyarylate imide which has a small linear thermal expansion coefficient, heat resistance enabling functional layers of every kind to be formed at a high temperature, excellent optical characteristics, and mechanical characteristics enabling a film to be formed. SOLUTION: The polyarylate imide has, in its main chain, one or more structures represented by general formula (1) or general formula (2) and one or more repeating units represented by general formula (3).
