A safety cabinet has a main body (1) with a fire-resistant door (2) and a cooling device (3). The cooling device consists of a core for latent heat storage sandwiched between sheet metal linings. The core also consists of salt hydrate or a mixture of calcium nitrate tetra hydrate and potassium nitrate with fusion temperature of approximately 30 degrees Celsius. The amount of latent heat to be stored in the core ranges from 100 to 120 kilo Joules per kilogram.
