<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight for a liquid crystal display device, with which an excellent picture is observed even from an oblique direction, even when luminance adjustment of a light source is carried out, and the liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight 2 for the liquid crystal display device is constructed by being equipped with: a plurality of luminance adjustable light sources 3 disposed on the rear face side of a display panel 1; a reflection plate 4 to reflect pencils of light emitted from the light source 3 to the display panel 1 side; a light diffusion plate 5 disposed between the display panel 1 and the light source 3; and a light condensing layer 6 disposed between the light source 3 and the light diffusion plate 5 and having protrusions 5 on the light diffusion plate 5 side. By arranging the light condensing layer 6 so as to neatly align outgoing directions of the luminous flux, positional deviation of peaks observed from the oblique direction is reduced, and occurrence of uneven luminance is suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
