PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of relaxing a shock applied to a driver without a collision of an upper column with a stroke edge of collapse movement even when a shock load is large at the time of a secondary collision. SOLUTION: Even when an upper bracket 4 on a vehicle body side is separated from a bracket 5, a butt member 81 is guided by a guide groove 51 to be moved to a front side of the vehicle body together with the upper bracket 4 on the vehicle body side. Before an edge surface 13 on the front side of the vehicle body of the upper column 1 collides with a lower bracket 6 on the vehicle body side, an edge surface 812 on the front side of the vehicle body of the butt member 81 is brought into contact with an edge surface 831 on a rear side of the vehicle body of a shock energy absorbing member 83. As the result, the shock energy absorbing member 83 is plastically deformed to absorb the shock energy, thus preventing generation of the large shock caused by the collision of the edge surface 13 on the front side of the vehicle body side of the upper column 1 with the lower bracket 6 on the vehicle body side.
