<FORM:0958130/C1/1> A centrifugal contacting column 10 has inlet and outlet pipes 94 and 108 for heavy liquid and inlet and outlet pipes 106 and 96 for light liquid; the heavier liquid being introduced and the lighter liquid withdrawn from near the centre of the column and vice versa. A plurality of concentric perforated separator bands 52 are arranged with increasing spacing between as the radial position increases. The speed of the rotor may be varied preferably between 300 and 1000 R.P.M. The area of the perforations in the bands are preferably 5 to 11 times the area of the admission openings for the liquids. The position of the inlets may be varied by using the removable rods 60, 62 and 64 with plugs 72 and openings at different points in the hollow or partly hollow rods. |
