PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a master disk for magnetic transfer whose magnetic layer has a cross section with a satisfactory uneven shape and which is nearly free from a noise component associated with magnetic transfer and has excellent transfer characteristics. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the master disk is provided with steps for: forming the magnetic layer 14 on the surface of an original plate 20 having a large number of fine uneven patterns formed on the surface thereof; forming a master substrate 12 made of a metal plate having a prescribed thickness by electrodepositing a metal on the surface of the original plate on which the magnetic layer is formed; and obtaining the master disk 10 for magnetic transfer to be a reverse plate having reverse patterns of the uneven patterns on the surface thereof and having the magnetic layer on the surface of the reverse patterns by peeling the master substrate from the original plate.
